Gee, when you sanded the bowls down, did you do anything to the idle fuel pickup tube length? Maybe it is now hitting the bowl choking off the idle fuel? How about the main nozzle? I would recommend you replace the carb bowls. I found some for $20 each on the web.

Did you check the vapor separator cover gasket, float and inlet needle? Did you inspect the vapor pump?

Update on this motor, just got it back from the shop. They said they had to take the carbs apart and adjust the floats some, and they said the intake manifold gaskets were leaking on both sides so they had to replace those. They also put a new set of plugs in it. Seems to run good on muffs, going to take it to the lake in the morning for a test run.
