Last weekend I took the boat out, had a hard time getting it started
which it has all ways been hard (because of it being cold) finally got it
started and we took off a little ways and it died, started again went
a little further gave it half thottle started to take off to get on plane
then it slowed back down and it keeped doing this. At one point the rpm's
went from 3000 to 4000 and I pulled the thottle back. So I loaded the boat
went home, pulled the cover and checked the plugs and they looked
good, I then hooked up a water hose and started the motor it ran fine
when idle and gave it more thottle and it seemed to run fine. I found that
the little hose that connects to the pisser had cracks in it and there was
water sitting inside, so I cut hose just above the cracks and put it back
on now water shoots out in a solid stream. Stoped at an auto parts store
and picked up a can of seafoam, got back to the lake the boat started
with no problem, after the seafoam started working it ran better, but
at 3000rpms I should be going 30-35mph. It was only running 20-25mph
at 3000rpms.
Would this be happening if there has been water in the carbs or is it a more
serious problem?

Re: Johnson 90hp problem

I think it has more to do with the loading of the boat or the placement of the loads. Another thought is the prop is slipping. What year is the motor?

sounds like the water soaked your coils, you may still have some issues with wet coil wires, get some electric clean spray and spray the ends of the plug wires AND the connections to the coils,Im thinking you have 1 coil not firing at this time

Re: Johnson 90hp problem

If your revs change quickly with no change in boat speed and the boat is going slower at the same motor speed, this suggests your prop hub is slipping. There is a rubber hub inside the prop which acts as a shock absorber. They can start slipping. Place a mark on the inner prop hub and another in the same place on the outer bit and see if they shift. If so, the hub is slipping. They can be replaced by a prop shop.
