Running boat all day and on the way home the motor sounded like it just droped a cylinder. Reduced the throttle to idle everythings fine throttle up and when rpm increases the same problem accures. If I turned keyoff and waited a min or so and started up and increase the throttle it would work fine for about a min then it started again.

Check the stator. this post for crossflow engine. You can also run engine full throttle touch trim button up, if engine misfires, stator is bad.

Good article I will start getting the tools and manuals to gether and see what happens. From the symtoms in the article looks like the S.L.O.W. is comming on.

ISn't there a quick test for SLOW?,
disconnect the tan wire to Power pack,
as long as you aren't actually overheating.... that would point to faulty therms.
Clanton knows best anyway....unless you dodge a bullet.
I'd rather pay for ( and install) thermostats than a stator any day.

I should have said check the powerpack, check the output to the coils, use AC scale 3/400 volts times the results by 4.414 should get you close to 150. you may have to do this with boat in water full throttle, which demands long meter wires. First check at idle. This post for 60 degree engine. I am comfused which engine you have, which is not hard to do.

Try here (iBoats) for factory service manual or ebay,

got mine on ebay $45.
http://stores.ebay.com/VINTAGE-SNOW...SON_W0QQcolZ2QQdirZQ2d1QQfsubZ7QQftidZ2QQtZkm

if no luck above then Cook definately has it.

Its a 96 BTW, J150ELED... DOH!
Ken cook has it at $70
http://www.outboardbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=models.main&year=1996&ID=88784

its well worth the money at twice the price.
Don't get the owner manual,
rather pricey and you already know everything in it.

Do not disconnect any wires, check at idle, just remove coil covers, esay excess.
