Do they make throttle controls for an 8hp johnson? If not is there any way to fabricate them?

Go to http://shop.evinrude.com/
Click on "Electronic Parts Catalog", then select "OB Accessories" from the drop-down list where it says Evinrude. Follow through to the year and you will see what was made for your motor. It may require a remote control adapter kit. Either way, from there, the standard two-lever control should work.

Re: johnson controls

its a 2002 pull start. The boat i have is a 72 glastron and had a 40hp evinrue. I can sort of hook up the steering but i dont feel safe. So for now i am going to use the tiller handle. I may just try to sell the 8hp and get an older 40-60 hp.

Re: johnson controls

Do they make adapters for the controls? Also for the steering? If not I am going to try and find a 40-60 hp with controls on craigslist and sell the 2002 8hp. I hate to get rid of it but im sure the extra power and controls will be nice.

Shop.evinrude.com doesn't show an 8hp model for 2002 - are you sure of the make/year?

Also, assuming that your Glasstron is about 14' - 15' in length, an 8hp motor isn't going to be enough power for it to even plane. I think you would be better off forgetting the controls and going to a larger engine. You don't have to get rid of the 8hp motor, however. I would keep it as a "kicker."

Hello, I didnt think it would plane. I will be using it to troll so I dont really need to plane. Although I may be getting a 65hp evinrude through craigslist. It is a 2002 I have the manual that came with the motor when it was new. Also a parts list from when he got it serviced.

Re: johnson controls

For some reason when i try to go to teh 2001-2004 it wont load?.?. But today I have a few people coming to look at my old boat and also my motor so if i sell both i will have a decent amount of money to put into buying an older johnson/evinrude 40-70 hp for the boat. I have a guy that wants to sell me his 65hp evinrude with controls running well for 600 dollars. So witha bit of luck I will have the glastron for less than what i paid for the 12' aluminum and motor.

Re: johnson controls

It is working fine for me on the catalog site, probably too busy to keep up with the traffic, so check after hours.

If I could know if its a four stroke or two stroke, I could tell you the part numbers.

Re: johnson controls

Its a two stroke. But later today I may be trading it for a 73 Evinrude 65hp. With a recent water pump/ impeller change. I am going to buy a compression tester fist and check the compression before I trade. Anything else I should be looking for?

Re: johnson controls

Re: johnson controls

73 65 hp, depending on condition, and if controls come with it. $500-1,000.
