Re: johnson engine cover

should be a lever under the front of the cover, pull down. they were good motors, gas hungry. they are the basis for the multitude of the V-4 motors.

I can't tell you specifically on that motor but usually there is one or more latches front and back may be under a door or hidden in the design.
58 is V410,V4S10 59 V4-11 V4S-11 understressed 50 hp at 4,000 rpm.
These are good Engines though very thirsty.they are usually refered to as heavy but actually lighter than todays 50s.Called fat 50s because of the shape. You should try to find yourself a factory service manual before attempting any work.

There was a latch in the front of the hood. There were two "hooks" on the rear of the hood. Unlatch the front lift up on the front and unhood the back. Now the hood will come off rear first.

Third party shop manuals are NFG. Do yourself a favor and get an OEM manual.

Jim, My OEM Service manual for the fatty was poor. Maybe the Selloc is better.
