I have a 1994 88 spl johnson, the engine will crank, but when given throtle (either in neutral or in gear) the engine dies. I can disconnect the black/yellow single pin harness that leads to the power pack and the engine runs fine. could this problem be caused from the kill switch gone bad? If not what could cause this? any help is appreciated.

Yes it could be a bad kill switch. Odd that it would allow you to idle & only act up when given throttle though. Unless the movement of the throttle lever is somehow shorting out the kill switch...........<br />Backlash

Thanks. I put a new kill switch in and it seems that did the trick. Have not put boat in water to test in gear, but idle was better.
