Wal-Mart sells Johnson/Evenrude 2 cycle oil for about $17 a gallon. I see Penzoil for about $11, Wal-Mart brand for $6 and Bombadier for $20. I have been using the Johnson/Evenrude oil, should I stay with it, or are any of the others just as good. Also, if Bombadier bought out OMC, why is there Johnson/Evenrude and Bombadier 2 cycle oil. Is this J/E oil the same stuff you would buy at a dealer?
Stalker

I should have told you that I run a 1994 225 HP johnson and that I premix at 50:1.
Stalker

Re: Johnson/Evenrude 2 cycle oil

The specific "BOMBARDIER" oil is for injection systems on PWC's and Snowmobiles only.
the Johnson/Evinrude name is maintained on the containers to clarify the use for outboards...
I've learned a ton on this forum, and I'm fixing Pop-corn as I type, and plan on "watching" the post this time.... :D

Be sure you look carefully at the oil bottle labels. For outboards, you want to see the NMMA
TC-W3 certification logo for outboard motor use. The new packaging from Bombardier says Johnson and Evinrude on it and is called XD-25, and will soon be changed to XD-30.

Bombardier also makes 2 stroke oil for snowmobiles, etc. as was posted earlier and it is NOT for outboards.

My store has, all are TC-W3 and nmma:
Pennzoil, $7
Pennzoil Blended, $13
Pennzoil Synthetic, $19
And.......
Pennzoil Bio somethin or another. $22

They also have WD-40 for $9.99, and corn oil for $3.99, so I think I'll switch to one of them. :p

OK, I'm a newb to boating but have owned PWC's.
I sold the PWC's to buy the deckboat.
This is a great debate in PWC circles also. :D

I tend to go over board when it comes to the oil I use. I could run the Evinrude XD25 or any TC-W3 oil and get by...

I choose to run Amsoil Synthetic in my 2 stroke engines. It's 20 bucks a gallon.

I like the protection this oil gives and it does not tend to break down at higher temps. Two conventional oils also give great heat protection and those are Castrol and Kendall oils.

I'll run the Castrol 2 Stroke Synthetic if I cant get the Amsoil.

My 2 cents worth...

Re: Johnson/Evenrude 2 cycle oil

Just how hot do you think that oil is running at? I mean, it sucks in, it burns up, then it's blown out. It doesn't recirculate like on a four stroke. That's the neat thing about 2-stroke oil. It doesn't get dirty as the motor runs. You never have to change it. You get fresh oil with every intake stroke. The motor would lock up long before oil temperature would be a problem in any way, shape, or form. (There's my contribution to the debate. Next...)

Ok, do you think the synthetic 2 stroke oil is better? Does Johnson/Evenrude make a synthetic? All out of popcorn, switching to peanuts!
Stalker

Re: Johnson/Evenrude 2 cycle oil

Nightstalker,

J/E have had a biodegrable synthetic oil for years. It is now being reformulated and called XD-100. You will see it more and more as it is the oil recommeded for the new E-TEC series. It ain't cheap, but it works very well and is recommended for oil injected motors when used in freezing temps.

Hey JB, Ill go for some of that Venison Jerky, Havnt had any sence my Grandfather passed!

Oh, Oil!

JPD211 Has it right, The main reason I would go that route is that you premix! Your injection system would have cut the mixture down to about 100:1 at Idle so you are going to get a lot more smoke and fowling at low RPMs! If you go with the Amsoil, use the Injector oil at 50:1! You will be very happy with it!
