Johnson Evinrude 1980

Hi all,
I have a 1980 35 hp Johnson Evinrude 2 stroke.

I have dual controls, one for throttle and one for gear.

Whenever I am going forward and putting it into full throttle the engine jumps into neutral and then back into forward. It continously does this while I am at full throttle. I can watch as the gear control pulls back on my control box.

Any ideas?

I bought the boat a few weeks ago.

Yes a new motor to me. It's been an issue since I got the boat

As far as I know the shifting cable is adjusted properly.

"As far as I know" means it needs to be checked. Always disconnect remote cables at the engine, and operate shift and throttle at the engine. Remember to rotate the prop slightly when shifting into gear. When satisfied the motor linkages are working properly, reinstall the cables to match the engine linkage locations -- adjust cables as needed with adjustment wheel.
