Does it make me a bad person if I day dream about torturing the engineer who designed the thermostats on the Bubblebacks?

I was replacing the thermostats yesterday on my 115 and frequently dropping f-bombs as the springs launched the many pieces all over my garage.

The neighbor kid was over, sitting on his bike as thermostat parts launched across the room and my f-bomb turrets kicked in. He said, ?You need to put $2 in my Jar for that word!? I asked him to run a tab.

He didn?t know what that was.

Is there any trick for this?

Put the assembly together, using sealer on the gaskets, then hold the assembly together with the smaller type tie straps. This will allow you to get the three retaining bolts started, after which the tie straps can be removed. Works for me.

I did use sealer on the gaskets.
Ezeke told me to get extra gaskets -- I didn't know why until I saw the face of the gasket after it had launched across the room -- it was crunchy from my unclean garage floor.

I had two extra gaskets -- I used them both. THANKS EZEKE!
It's on now, I only hope it doesn't leak.

Re: Johnson/Evinrude Bubbleback Thermostats

I probably need to replace mine on my 1996 Johnson 112VR this winter. This is not the first post I have read about what a PITA these thermostats are to replace.

I know some bad words, too.

Sorry, but it took me 1-2 hrs of reading to find something more usefull than pulling the "bubble"
off to make more room to work. And yes this should be added to the top secret file.
Thanks again Joe!
