I own a 2001 Evinrude Ficht 150. Its barely 3 months old. I have gone through two lower Units. Faulty pinion gear. The latest appears to be a faulty Ficht oil sensor. It caused the ECM to think it was not getting any oil. I got the "no Oil light" and the the motor is designed to cut out at 2500 RPMs with a problem. So I was stuck until the tow boat got us. After 7 hours of fun, it took 6-7 hours to get towed in.
I love the engine when it works. It gets great gas mileage and gives almost no smoke. I think its extremely quiet for a 2 cycle as well. But these little problems are starting to add up!

Hey FNG...interesting post. I have a 2001 Evinrude 115 and although its brand new, I really like it so far. I have it on a 16 ft Larson Flyer and man does it fly. So far no problems, but the salesman told me I could save about 40% on fuel and 50% on oil. I was sold. I will have to keep my eye on some of the problems that you are having. Hopefully nothing goes wrong. :)

FNG:

There have been numerous posts recently regarding new Evinrude/Johnson lower unit failures. Warranty is great, but it sure won't get you home when you have a catostrophic failure miles from home port.
Hopefully, OMC/Bomadier will get this issue resolved for you folks pronto!

Walt

I'll keep you posted. No problems yet. I love my '01 Johnson 150. Probably have about 75 hours on it so far. I spend a lot of time way out in the ocean, so she gets a pretty good workout.

You're e-mail address might help me get to you, if something occurs down the road (river) a ways. I won't bother you with anything else.

as for your no oil problem, alot of the time it is not your no oil sensor. inspect the oil tank pickup for blockage, inspect oil lines for chafeage or kinking!, do a pressure check on the oil lift pump pressure lines, and pressure check on the oil pressure fitting just past the oil injector! i would suspect a faulty oil lift pump!

good luck
SP

Purchased a used 2000 Lowe Pontoon with 2000 Johnson 90HP last year used. Ran ok for about 5 months now runs like crap. Unable to figure out why so far.
Burns gas at an incredible rate. Just got a manual and it stinks. Last page of wiring diagram has NO LEGEND so you have no idea what is what. Anyhow all I can say at this point is once I get it running good enough to sell, it's History!

FNG....I have the exact same motor as you and have had not a single problem with it, I guess it is just the luck of the draw, but once you get everything taken care of you have to agree that the Ficht blows away carbs anyday. Good Luck.

i have to say that im disappointed with my father's 2000 25hp Johnson. it's currently in the shop for repairs from damage caused by a bolt backing out of the stator assy and planting itself between the coils and the magnets on the flywheel. fortunately, i was at idle having come off of full throttle not a full 60 seconds earlier. you can refer to the following thread for my specifics if you like:

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=28;t=014712

happy boating to all.
