Hey all,
Seems that when I get on step, it will run for a while then all of a sudden lose power. It doesn't kill but it slows down. When I try to get back up the engine will just sputter. If I turn the engine off for a minute or two then start it back up, it will get up just fine then slow down again. I'm lost!

We need model number and yr.
And background history, is it new to you?

Sounds like it's dropping a cyl from either a fuel or ignition prob. Needs trouble shooting.

Sorry for the late response. The model number is J150GLEOM and it's a '95. It is new to me. Talked to a mech. around here and he said it's a good chance that it is the impeller that's worn out since it runs fine at half throttle, but not at full. I also notice that the previous owner had put some NGK plugs in there. I'll be changing those to some Champions this weekend.

After taking down the lower unit and opening the water pump, we found that one of the blades on the impellor was broken. We replaced the impellor and ran the boat. It ran like a top!

The outboard was going into SLOW mode on you as it overheated it shut itself down.. I would say it most likely saved you a cooked power head.
