To all:

I just picked this motor up. Went to start and the selinoid just clicks. At first the starter went to engage but wouldnt turn, now it just clicks. Juice isnt the issue, im wondering if the selinoid went out?? PO stated it ran fine before it was put away. Got 120 psi on both cylinders.... Any advice would be helpful..

Thanks...

Try jumping directly to the starter - that will tell you if the solenoid or a connection is the culprit... Make sure there is no fuel leakage anywhere as there will likely be sparks!

Re: Johnson FD 22A 20hp starting help

I have not seen it run. It does have a pull start and I have got it to fire briefly. I think it keeps flooding due to fuel dripping out the carb. I just want to get this starter running cause my arms are breaking down... LOL

When I jump directly to starter, nothing not even any sparks. Would it be the starter at this point?? Like I said when I first put power to it the starter engaged briefly, now just a click at the selinoid.

thanks guys!!

She Lives!!! Took some pulls but she finally fired up and missed for a bit then after about 20 minutes of running the miss is gone. Idles well and runs good in entire throttle range in neutral. Lower unit oil is white, its coming off soon. One question though it seems to be discharging much more oil in the water than Im used to seeing. What types of things would cause this?

Thanks

The oil in the water is usually normal - it's unburned fuel mix, typical of a 2-stroke.

If you've got nothing at the starter when jumping it, the starter is likely DOA. Pull it apart and see if anything is fried...

Sweet Sea Raider. Glad you got here running. I would still rebuild the carb and run some Sea Foam through it. You'll be amazed at the difference it can make. Ditto on the oil. Don't worry about it. It get's pretty funky in the test tank, but makes very little smoke/oil on the open water.
