johnson fd12 impeller gasket question

After using my motor for a week of fishing, I decided to change out my gear oil. Found that water was getting into the lower unit. So I take the lower unit apart to change the seals.

As I was taking apart the impeller housing, I noticed that there were no gaskets. One repair manual I have says that there are gaskets that need to be replaced-under and over the impeller plate. Another does not show that I need gaskets. Which one is right?

Motor-'58 Johnson fd-12, 18hp.

Thanks. I think I'm going to get the service manual that is on iboats. Didn't know they had them here.
