Hello,
I am pullung my hair identifying this motor that I picked up. It is a big v8 Johnson 250. I was told it was a 1993 and I need to know for lower unit parts. The plate on the hanger bracket is gone. But the round stamp on the engine block reads: G3190675 I have checked this number and it does not show as a match on the interent. Can anyone please help me out here?
Thanks!

dont you just love how they do that, they could have just as easily added the model number to that plug..they did on some years...kinda makes me made at manufacturer incompetence sometimes. a OMC dealer could run those numbers for you if no one in here can.

Unfortunately OMC has been dead for 10 years, but only one motor in the world will have your serial number.

An authorized BRP Dealership may run that number for you for the exact information, but based on your serial number it is most likely to be from model year 1993.

Parts catalog here should help: http://shop.evinrude.com/

Hi I ran your serial number but it doesn't come up.
If your transfer port covers, exhaust covers, water jacket covers etc. can be removed you have a cross flow,if not then its a looper.
Post a picture of motor and hood maybe we can narrow it down some.

It is definitely a looper. I just wanted to find out the year for the lower unit. One thing that made me question that is was a 1993 was the fact that it has the older style trim and tilt and I thought that after 1992 all motors used the Fastrak systems.

Gotta be a looper, they didn't make a V8 crossflow. Anyway any V8 gearcase will work. Actually a V6 gearcase will work too but the gear ratio is different. The old (85-87) 300 gearcase is longer than the 275 gearcase. That can be an issue depending on what your set up will be like and what boat it goes on.

Examples - if you're using a larger boat for offshore type cruising then the slightly larger early 300 case will be fine. Or any V8 case from the the 90s. If you're going for a performance set up and plan on adding a low water pick up nosecone the the early 275 (shorter) case is the way to go. If you're looking for high performance the the V6 case will have less drag and give a great holeshot.
