I lost the ignition key of my 1988 Johnson outboard (J150TXCCA). I appreciated if somebody could advise me which ignition switch should i buy. Thanks!

Re: Johnson ignition key

You might see a 2 digit number on the key switch where the key goes in. You can get the key with the same number without buying a whole switch. But if you must buy a new switch, it must be for outboards. Most any outboard ignition switch should work. One thing to watch for is if the switch has "push to choke" or not. There are also switches with many threads for thick consoles and few threads for remote controls.

Rumor has it that there are amazingly few unique keys for a given manufacturer's switch.....

Swist is very right. Chrysler had about 7. Johnnyrude has about 4 different styles and the old double-edged key had many possibilities, but all styles since have only a dozen or less each. Old Mercury keys had around 100 possibilities, but the newer ones only have only a dozen. Many dealer shops have key rings with all of them for those times when the customer forgets the key. I believe the key for that 1988 will be between 55 and 67

Ask someone you know with a Johny or Rude if you can borrow their key for a minute and when one works(and one will) then duplicate it.Charlie
