Johnson J40ELCDE 1986 lower unit removal

A manual says that the shift rod has to be disconnected at the basepan. There is a bolt set back from under the carburator that tightens a clamp on a rod. Is that it? How does it work? I would think the rod would be vertical and not horizontal to get reconnected easier. Thanks.

it could be
also might be on the lower unit itself
go to brp.com and look at the part blow ups
