I will take a check for the manual.

Send me an e-mail and I'll reply with my address. I send it as soon as I receive the check for 11.99.

You won't be dissappointed. It is the best manual for your engine.

Arlan

WAHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I coundn't wait on my friend, so I picked up a ohmeter at Radio Shack. The results are in, one of the diodes shows perfect continuity, the other show ZIP!!! The diode is bad, hopefully that is all that is wrong! I'll have some time Fri to check the rest, and the new diode show be here as well! I'll keep ya'll posted on the results! Thanks again, Ross :) :) :) :) :) :)

P.S. ajp I'll give you a e-mail tonight for the details.

Hey I'm proud of ya....tackling it yourself!! You'll use that meter many times in the future....it just paid for itself!! If you really want to get into it.....replace just the one diode! what have you to lose? the one diode runs about .50 cents. Whatever you're comfortable with....

Good going!! :)

Thanks, Schematic

You've been a great help, this would have been a real headache without your assistance. I'm currious about what Capt. Black said about the trans still engaging a bit? Should I still expect a bit of a kick? Reguardless this has been a lot of fun trying to figure this out! Thanks, Ross

You should expect a bit but not a lot. If you have one diode out, it certainly will be noticeable. I hope you're using the diode test function?

Schematic,

Diode test function? I'm not sure what you mean by that? Also I cut down the diode assembly, and isolated the bad diode, now you wouldn't happen to know what size or voltage, or possitive or negative type? I would love to try to replace just the bad one, it would save me about 65 bucks. If you have any good ideas lett me know.
Thanks as always, Ross

Keep the prop wet and the motor dry.

Re: Johnson kicks into gear when turned off????

Ross
If it was mine, I'd try one of these. They are 4amp 1000PIV. The 1000 volt is important, as the solenoids will produce a spike voltage when de-energized. You could just replace the bad one with a 4amp 1000PIV diode.
I asked what function you used to test your diodes. Most Digital ohm-meters have this function available. Usually has a diode symbol on the selector switch. I don't like using the Ohm-meter function on a digital, as it can mislead you when checking semi-conductors(whole different story).

Schematic,

I'm with you now, yes I used the diode test function, and fortunatly or unfortunatly the ohmmeter that I'm using is digital? I'll try radio shack this afternoon and see if they have something like this, does the extra, unattached lead matter or not? Thanks, Ross

Re: Johnson kicks into gear when turned off????

I think I was unclear.
The digital meter is the way to go! The ohmmeter is awsome as well as all the other functions. What I meant was, don't use the ohmmeter function to test diodes or transistors, use only the diode test function. If you don't have the diode test function on your digital meter, you can use the ohmmeter function on a analog meter(needle meter). But don't use the ohmmeter function on a digital meter to test diodes. Doesn't matter if your leads are permanently attached or not, but the meter should have a diode test function or I'd return it. I think I would prefer unattached leads if you ever wanted to use a DVA adapter which plugs in to the meters existing recepticles.

Good testing! :)

schematic,

I put the new diode assy. in this afternoon, It seems to make quite a differance. It still kicks, but not as nearly as bad as before. I think we'll chack this one down as a success!!! Thanks again for your and everybody elses help! Thanks, Ross :) :)

Congrats Ross, you did us proud.

Good to hear about a success now and then. Wish everyone would get back to us when the job is done.

good boating!! :)
