Johnson lower unit rebuild...

I recently had some trouble with my 225 Johnson lower unit. The unit is a left hand rotation. I am interested in attempting to put my foot back together myself, simply for the fact that I have spent $1100.00 so far on parts. What is the proper or an effective way to shim my gears in the lower unit? I have been told you can use plastiguage to measure your teeth depth from the pinion gear to the forward and reverse gears. Hopefully someone out there can point me in the right direction.

Ryan

You need an OEM shop manual. It gives all the detail for correct shimming.
