Hello,

I was just wondering what sort of things I should do to tune up my motor. It is a 30 HP, and the information is as follows:

Model No: J30ELEIC
Series No: G 02995651

I am new to boating, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

There is nothing you can do that will be more important than getting and reading a Factory Service Manual, tdh.

Hello,

Would this manual be suffice? I'm not sure whether or not there are specific manuals, as I am having a hard time finding one. The motor is a 1991 and a 30 HP, so I assume that this would be the correct service manual.

Let me know if I'm off track here! Thanks.

Thats a Clymer manual. You will be better off with an OMC factory Service manual.
Here's a couple on ebay...

Re: Johnson Motor Maintenance

I'll give you a generic answer:
Change the spark plugs
Change the water pump impeller if it's more than a couple of years old or you don't know how old it is.
Clean any gas filters.
Change the gear oil.
Grease where there are zerks
Look for corrosion on wiring and fittings, including all ground connections and the battery connections.

Now if something is bothering you about how your motor is running right now, then speak up. The stuff I listed is minimum preventative maintenance items
