johnson motor not pumping water?

so the motor is a 35 johnson 1981 and when it idles it just drips water out of the pee hole and sometimes dont drip,even when motor is rived up.But it does come out of the 2 holes in the middle of the shaft? i ran it for about 30 mins this away and seems fine.The hole is not stopped up.is their another way to check to see if it is working right besides the little pee hole?thanks

Sounds like you still have pee hole passage probs if the mtr didn't over heat. Pull the fitting out of the block and check that.

well im not 100% its not over heating but i was guessing it was not.It does not have a alarm.

I find it hard to believe it would run 30 minutes if it wasn't cooling properly, but I would check the head temperature with a thermometer just to be sure. When was the last time the water pump was changed on this motor?

the impeller was changed last year but the seals do look bad.

It may not be the indicator hole, but the hose.

I'm not sure of your particular model, but the models I have owned have a plastic piece that fits into the engine cover. This is what I'm referring to as the indicator. Connected to this is a hose going to another connector on the exhaust cover. I have had the same problem and success by running a wire through the hose.

Run a piece of fishing line up the telltale hose to make sure there isn't a blockage....preventing water from going thru the hose.

i checked the hose its fine.I pulled the fitting off too its clear.Could it have bad seals?they were falling apart.
