Well if that isn't a pathological cause to a routine problem I don't know what is. I'd certainly check points, condensors and plug wires. Could be your points are nice and crispy-fried, as well as your condensors. Did you replace the plug wires also? The cores could be toast on those too.

Johnson OB idles rough, low power after lightning strike

Hey,

My boat was hit by lightning recently and after chasing down many fried circuits, relays and fuses, I have found that the engine runs really rough if at all at idle and there is just no power when I have the boat in gear. I've replaced all the wires and one of the ignition coils that was toasted but I'm still having the same problems.

Any pointers?

You probably want to specify the model so folks can better help you sort through the componentry.

You are probably going to need a a new rectifier/regulator and a few things under the flywheel.

Better run a complete diagnostics before you talk to the insurance company

You must not have insurance, or you wouldn't be trying to fix it yourself. What model/size motor is it?

What size engine, and boat are we talking about here? Is it an aluminum, or fiberglass boat? Did the strike hit the boat, or was it plugged into a power outlet at a marina?

Lightening can melt harder metals than what your engine is made of...how's the compression?
