I know I'm in a minority here, (n' only have one brain cell butt: it does function), as it is obvious that most iboaters favor Johnnyrudes, (as do me Alaskan buds n' family favor J'Rudes, [now Yamadingers], as well), n' I already told ya I wasn't taken the time ta go to the Seattle bidness library ta pull out the historical unit sales volumes from sec filings n' such n' scan the docs n' post 'em, (not worth it to me as I already know I got me facts straight), n' no need ta prove what I know ta be true.

I don't mind if ya like Johnnyrudes, (I do toooo BTW), n' they did sell more units of the smaller outboards over a longer period of time. N' those small J'Rudes are mighty fine engines n' spark genuine loyalty from happy cornsumers.

You and the rest of the J'Rude fans here jus' believe what you want to: no matter to me.

I'm a cornservative livin' in a very Liberal town so minority views are real normal in my world, n' don't hurt me feeeeeeeelin's at all.

The big guns on Scream and Fly, (which are some of the founders of the outboard bidness), make the very same claims I do about the inline6 sales, butt: they also don't produce hard data so yer not gonna likely believe the founders of the outboard bidness either. So be it.

The SEC documents/filings or a past prospectuses from a past securities underwrightings, (debt or equity as both Brunswick n' OMC have, [had in the case of BK OMC], publicly traded securities that would have had historical prospectuses with the unit sales info disclosed), n' that is where the info would exist and would be available in any real good bidness library.

I believe in flaotin' boats n' if it makes the folks happy here ta believe in the ol' tooth fairy: so be it.

Yup, me purdy Black girls are not appreciated so much, (as you can easily see), n' due to the bad vibes, I can get 'em real cheap: JBJ, thanks ta all you fellers tellin' tall tails about 'em.

I don't mind at all.

The fellers over at Scream n' Fly talked me into hangin' me recently acquired 1972 1150 silver block fresh water virgin on me recetly acquired 1978 14' Cobra, (made by Sidewinder).

I will do that within the next couple of weeks n' torch her off n' try some speed runs, (if the lake stays clear of ice), which it should 'till late December or early January.

The hull only weighs 550 lbs n' the purdy ol' Black girl weighs 270 lbs n' me fat arse is another 215 lbs, add six gallons of fresh 89 with a splash of TCW-3 n' I bet she will really fly.

Next spring I will put the power trim on her if she doesn't skeeeeeer the pee outa me.

What ya got that ya think would run with me, eh: JBJ....hmmmmmmmm?????

Almost snagged a Carlson Corntender, (I useta have one of those with me 1250 short shaft on it, [a real screemer]) outa Portland three weeks ago butt: the feller flaked out on me , n' I found this Cobra.

This was a very entertaining thread to read! but i believe it's just a matter of preference, I've had a 100hp v4 and run an 115 i6 right now. The six is louder, burns more gas (at WOT) and is more powerful, specially out of the hole. The V4 was easy to work on and maintain, it seems like the sixes have to be tuned pretty near perfect to run well.

They johnson is simplier and built better but the mercury is more powerful and fun. jest my 2 cents

Hey from ONTARIO!second only in size to ALASKA!I dont know if its a regional thing or not but omc,s of the pre 1990,s lets say, out number mercs by a very large margin.Of the newer models (4 pokes),around my neck of the woods its evenly split between yamaha and merc.Your lucky oldmercsrules ,if i went out to find a i6 tomorrow around here id have a better chance of winning the lottery.The only info i could find on sales was for 2000 when omc sold 100,000 units ,fully 1/3 of total sales by all manufactures.Its interestimg to note that omc was dogged by the EPA for decades about one of the plants and it caused them no end of fits and drained large amouts of money .No one thing brought omc to its knees ,it was a combination of many things ,the least of them was the motors though not totally without their own problems which in time were adressed.I personally know one dealer who switched to merc because he would not send customers out on the water with a fitch motor!Doesnt have anything bad to say about the new e-tecs though.I know a few people who have the later fitch,s and they say they are very good so brp must of fixed them .Personally if i cant work on it i dont want it,but i suppose just like trucks there will come a day when all that will be left will be high tech motors and i think the world will be the lesser for their going(i6 and v4).Enjoy and cherish your oldies guys, no matter wether they be merc or omc.

Must be regional, on my lake in ontario merc's out number anything 4-1. It seems to be more older mercs, by older late 80s early 90's. For performance i've always noted Mercury as the best. If i were going strickly for fuel economy I would look into the 150 HO E-tec from BRP but i simply cannot afford that now.

I'm with ya OldMercsRule.Gotta love those tall purdy black girls.Nothing looks or sounds as good IMHO.Could be better on fuel I suppose,but it is a toy for me at least and you have to pay to play.

Running a 150 L6 on a Glastron Carlson.

P.S.Could have picked up probably 1/2 dozen inlines this summer in running condition for between $1000 and $1500.Not a bad price for my area.
