Re: Johnson outboard questions

Could it be MQ-13? If so it is a 1967.
Have you got spark to the plugs?
Try squirting some gas/oil mixture in the carb and see if it fires, maybe need to overhaul carb.

No fuel to the plugs = no start or run. Clean and reinstall the carb.

i took the top part of the carb off and i am cleaning it up.....do i need to take the bottom part of the carb off as well and if i do i see that i can't get to the flat screw unless i take off what i believe is called the throttle assembly....is there an easier way?

Re: Johnson outboard questions

If you bought a carb rebuild kit, you are going to want to take off the bottom part just to replace the gasket, but if you didn't there really is no need to take the bottom part off. Parts are easy to find, I have a '64 9.5 and still get parts for it at my local boat shop

haven't bought a kit yet but i was going to.....but i guess my question is.....do i need to take off the plate or throttle control to get to that flat screw to take off the bottom part of the carb....or is most of what i need to clean in the top part of the carb?....its good to know that i can get parts for this motor cause it doesn't look like it had many hours on it....thanks
