Johnson outboard with Force controls?

I recently bought a little project boat with a blown1990 Force 90hp. I've been searching hard for another motor to replace it on somewhat of a budget. I've found a very clean '84 Johnson with low hours at a good price. My question is this...the boat I am putting the motor on obviously has the controls for the Force. Will the Johnson motor tie into these controls, or will I have to replace everything, shifter included? I am hesitant to replace the shifter for two reasons. The controls that come with the Johnson motor have the tilt/trim button integrated into the shifter. My tilt/trim toggle is currently by itself in my dash, and I would like to keep it there for cosmetic reasons. The same with replacing the shifter...the boat's current shifter is just better looking. Any advice? Thanks guys!

You may want to post this question on the Force/Chrysler outboard section of this forum. I know years ago when Chrysler used Morse cables they made adapters for OMC, but I can't tell you now.

There is more to this than just making the physical connections. The amount of throw (distance the cables move) is not the same from brand to brand so even though have an adapter to make the engine connection, there is no gurantee that full throttle create full throttle on the engine. There is no adjustment for that. The adjustments on the cables themselves are not for that purpose. They adjust cable/sheath length. I don't know about the Force controls, but some engines require "pull" to move the throttle while others reqjuire "push".

Different engine different controls, that is how it works, you can leave the toggle on the dash with no wires hooked to it so you don't have a hole adn as far as the OMC controls not being as pretty, you will have to adjust to that.

Forces are getting harder and harder to find parts for everyday, OMC engines will have parts available for years and years, switch it out an you will get used to it in a week.

Put a Johnson control on it and sell the Force control. You might even come out a $ ahead.

You need the electrical cable & plug that comes with a Johnson control. Force won't work.
