Johnson Problem
I have a 1999 Johnson (J35PL3EEM)outboard that will suddenly cut out and shut itself down while the boat is being driven at full speed or close to. It seems to be preventing itself from overheating or sensing that it is overheating. The following repairs have been completed in an attempt to repair the problem. Replaced water pump, replaced gauge, and finally replaced power pack. Replacing the power pack (as recommended by Johnson rep) seemed to do the trick for the last two years (May to September use each year) but now the identical problem is back after the first trip out on the eater this year. Any ideas? It is extremely frustrating and is beginning to ruin too many fishing trips. The engine starts and idles well otherwise.
