I just picked up an old Johnson SeaHorse Model No. QD 17B, Serial No. 1421378, that appears to be in great shape. I would like to know if anyone can pass on any inforamtion on how to give it a tune up? I am sure the water pump needs to be replaced, how difficult will that be? Any info or help would be gretaly appreciated.

Ahoy, Scotty.<br /><br />Welcome aboard. :) <br /><br />Your QD-17 is a 1960 5.5hp engine.<br />Spark plugs are Champion J4C, gapped at .030".<br />Magneto point gap is .020"<br /><br />Fuel mix is 24:1, 1 qt TC-W3 oil to 6 gallons 87 octane unleaded gas.<br /><br />Do not work on it until you have a manual and you have read it. After that most routine maintenance will be pretty easy.<br /><br />Good luck. :)

The best place for aftermarket manuals is right here, Scotty. http://www.boatmotors.com/manuals.html <br /><br />You can get reprints of the OEM manuals from several places, including kencook.com<br /><br />Good luck. :)
