Hi Joe
First take a look at the shift linkage. make sue you are getting full movement. Look to see that the detent lever is in the correct position. Sometimes this linkage gets a little sticky. Don't hammer on it. Just try a oil it up. If this isn't the case the you probably have worn parts in the lower unit. In this case you will need to disassmble it for repair. I would suggest that you obtain a manual before beginning work.

Hi Joe
Manuals can be ordered from Iboats here at the bottom of the page. Or you might find a copy at your public library many book stores also sell them. My personal opinion on which brand to get, is it doesn't matter. They are all great and give the same info. Once you get one (manual) there will probably be a few more little maintaince jobs you will want to do to your motor.

Re: JOHNSON SEAHORSE 10HP

I have a JOHNSON SEAHORSE 10HP CAN ANYBODY HELP ME FIND OUT WHAT YEAR THIS IS?? MODEL#QD 10 SERIAL#89205
I may need to take the carburetor of and clean it out so it will start. It has not been running for about 25 years. CAN ANYBODY HELP ME with the first steps that I should check before I dismantle the whole carburetor? I tried to remove the fuel filter glass and it will not drop off like I think it is to do? Is it dried on or is it to pop off?
