You need to use a marine oil mix, marked TCW-3.
Probably a 24to1 mix[someone will correct it if I'm wrong]
Chainsaw mix is for engines that run hotter[air cooled vs.water cooled]
Good luck.

The 1959 JW-15 started out life as a 16:1 mix motor. No roller bearings, so a rich oil mix is a must. Definitely use TC-W3 oil; not chainsaw oil.

Yes, 16:1 which is 8 oz. per gallon. 24:1 is the very least, but 16:1 is better

Well you think starting spray would make it start instead of gas and oil

Re: Johnson Seahorse 3hp

starting spray is for old diesels!! (jmo). and if you use it to start your 2 stroke motor you will damage it....there isnt any lubrication in the spray can!!!

Apparently that is unsanitary Zephyr, geesh! (Or so I have been told by my wife)

Start with the basics here.

What is the compression exactly? If compression is fine, is there a healthy blue spark that will jump a 1/4" gap on an inline tester with a bright blue ZAP!!? When it will not start and you pull the spark plug is it wet? If not, spray pre mixed fuel (NOT starting fluid) into the cylinder then try again. If it now fires you have a fuel delivery issue. That may need to be adressed with the carb rebuild, but can discuss that once we pinpoint the issue.

Re: Johnson Seahorse 3hp

chris52796,what they're trying to say is ,that unlike a car that uses oil pumped thru the engine and stored seperately in the oil pan.this motor does not have that.so one must mix the correct ratio gas:eek:il to insure proper combustion as well as proper lubrication...you say you have moved the coils???have you reset the points(.020) to open at tdc???
