I just bought a johnson seahorse td20. I am having issues with gas pouring out of the carb. I put a brand new cork float in it and now when I adjust the lean to rich needle it comes out extremely fast out of the bottom where the throttle moves up and down. Would that mean that the leather washer seals on the primer pump needs replaced? Another gas problem I am having is is the other needle on the other side of the motor which I guess is the governer needle when I slightly adjust that gas comes out of the hole pretty quickly. I can get it started but I have to run it full throttle to keep the gas flowing thru. Can anyone help me with this?

The needle on the other side of the motor is for the low speed mixture adjustment. It should generally be opened about 3/4 of a turn. Why it's leaking I'm not sure. Did you try to simply tighten up the fitting that attaches it? On the other side, I'm not sure what to tell you. It seems odd to me that adjusting the high speed mixture valve would make gas leak out of the lower part of the carb.

Re: Johnson Seahorse TD20

The carb only leaks a little out the primer pump when the lean/rich needle is all the way in (meaning closed to the leanest adjustment) Its when I open it up (make it richer) then gas comes quickly out the throttle body area. Im positive its not a float problem. The low speed mixture needle has a hole leading in between the copper gas line and the needle. You can tell its made like that not sure why but when you look in you can see the tip of the needle when its all the way closed. When I open it is when gas comes out of that hole. Would there be some kind of O ring around the needle that needs replaced? I haven't taken that needle off yet but will do that soon I guess. my main concern has been trying to figure out the gas leaking problem in the throttle body. I will try and post some pics soon to give a better idea what im looking at.

catfish,

Go to aomci.org and register for their forum. There are guys there that know EVERYTHING about these old TD20s. I'm sure photos would help a lot. Good luck.
