Johnson Super Sea Horse ID??

I have just acquired myself an old 60's speedboat. I am not 100% sure on identifing the engine. I know that it is a V4 Johnson Super Seahorse @ 60hp I think it is a VX series engine but I cannot find any id on it anywhere. Can anyone please tell me where to find the engine id. I am not sure if they have an id plate or not. I am a Yamaha man so this is all new to me.

Welcome to the forums Wyatt.<br /><br />Two places you can look.<br /><br />Look on one of the transom brackets for a tag with the Model & Serial Numbers. Or, look on top of the block for a welch plug with the above on it. We will need the Model Number to determine the year.<br /><br />Thanks.

Thanks for your help guys i will have a look at home tonight afterwork and hopefully solve my problems. I was also wondering if you could put me onto anyone for parts. Nobody in Oz wants to help they all want to sell you a new motor(ok if you have a few spare thousannd dollars kicking around). I need a new pinion gear for the starter motor.
