Hey guys...I'm realizing now why my tachometer doesn't work. I believe its because the send cable isn't hooked up. Where or to what do I hook it up to and with what gauge wire. I included pictures of the tach and the power box off the boat. Its a Johnson 175 hp 1979. Any help would be great!

If there is no gray wire in the engine harness, tap off one of the yellow wires from the stator. By the way, the light is not hooked up either. Electricity doesn't care what color the wires are but it sure helps diagnose issues when proper wire colors are used so "white" is not the color for the "I" terminal.

Re: Johnson tachometer hookup

Thanks so much for answering. I did not doing the wiring originally so that's why I am re-doing it with some new gauges and correct wire colors. But as far as the gray wire would I see it going into the power pack area or would it just be in the cluster that has the wire attached to it on the bottom with the red plug (in picture 2), what kind of power would it have or ohms so i could test it I dont want to screw anything up if the wires are not the right color. Also is there any where i can find a diagram for what colors are suppose to be? And what gauge should I be using for most instrument panel stuff?

And I have no idea where the stator is at but I'll worry about that if I cant find the gray wire, thanks so much Ramzzey13
