Hey all

I went on a maiden Voyage on a ranger 373v with a Johnson 175 V6 everything was going great then about 30 minutes into it the engine bogged down and would not turn over any more I would get a loud continuous beeping when I turned the key. I check the oil there was oil, checked the gas there was gas. wait to see if it was a running hot. I used the Trolling motor to get back to the dock 1.5 hours later.

I am not a mechanic but I can follow instructions well...

So suggestions ... no I was not looking at the gauges when it happened I know bad me.

Loud continuous beep that doesn't go away when you throttle down = overheat (should go away once engine is cool)

Loud continuous beep that goes away as soon as you pull back throttle = fuel restriction....you don't have that unfortunately.

tomorrow try to restart the motor and see if water is coming out of tell tale, as well as gauge reading.....you can also remove the thermo stats to see if they are clogged.

Down here in Sarasota, it is not uncommon to pick up sand and shell which get stuck in the thermostat a s s emblies' inlets.

You did not mention the year of this engine. When the 1989 models came out, they had the new single power packs. These packs had the SLOW feature. If the engine sensed an overheat (a constant warning horn) the power pack would limit engine rpm's to 2500.
