Have a 1990 Johnson VRO 225 V6. Motor runs great and has 215 hrs. on rebuiid. I have 2 questions. 1) When running at cruising speed, the engine rpm's run down slightly. When I watch the controller arm I notice that it appears to be slipping back towards neutral. 2) I don't feel like the motor is getting up to full rpm. Top rpm's running @ 5100. The controller seems restricted at full throttle. Any suggestions.

Thanks jpa3416@attbi.com

Re: Johnson VRO 225 V6

Its very possible / likely the throttle will creep back. Some controls have a tension adjustment - most dont. Its a good idea to have your hand on the throttle anyway.

5100 rpm with an average load is not enough. Its very hard on the motor. The combustion temps are higher than they are supposed to be. Even if everything else is OK.

Work with the set up to try and get close to 5800 to 6000 with your average load.

Good luck!

Is it possible that I have the wrong prop. Not sure what I have on it right now. What would be the right prop for that motor. It's pushing a 22' cuddy fisherman.
