My non-internet friend has a long shaft 1986
70 hp Johnson VRO 3 cyl. motor. This motor has an outboard jet unit, not a prop. We went out on the river last week and did not go 700 yards and
the motor seized. I took off the head last night and found the bottom piston, #3 I think, with huge chunks missing on the exhaust side. Alumunium is gone clear down to the piston ring.
It looks like most of the material is going into the exhaust. The material stuck to the sleeve flakes off fairly easy with a knife blade.
Wondering if this is fuel troubles? Air? Oil?
He did say the motor had been harder starting recently, but we had gone very little distance and we are fairly sure the water pump was peeing.
Also, should a guy get this head magna-fluxed.
It had lots of piston hitting it. Thanks,
Dan
