Re: johnson water leak

Not difficult at all, but requires a specific tightening sequence using a torque wrench. Get an OEM shop manual and it will give you all the details. Also, the head bolts should be retorqued after ~ 8 to 10 hours of run time. The job shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, even for a first timer.

IMPORTANT, examine the old head gasket and gasket seating surfaces on the head and block and try to determine whether the gasket failed or the head or block have problems. If the motor has ever overheated, you should check the head for flatness, and if not, it must be surfaced to make it flat before installing a new gasket. Again, the shop manual should detail all of this.

hold your horses!!!! 1st make sure the pee tube hose is not leaking. also the cylinder head is made up of two pieces, the cylinder head and the water jacket, could just be a water jacket, gasket leak.

look up you motor here, http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=86d3d72aeba35dacbc349b439cb45104"cylinder and crankcase" you will see what i mean. #30 IS WATER JACKET #29 WATER JACKET GASKET #28 IS CYLINDER HEAD.
