I have a 86' Johnson outboard 40hp, I had to drop the lower unit to replace a o'ring in the water pump, when I put it all back together and started it up, no water from the pee hole and the automatic buzzer kicked on almost immediately, which I believe is so you know there is no water circulation, No I did not replace the impeller or the other parts in the water pump they looked fine, the line from the engine to the pee hole is not clogged, do you think the impeller is back wards?

Thanks

Make sure you run that engine in a barell. Water needs to be up high around the water pump.

You might want to recheck your assembly of the L/U. And change the impellar while in there.

Re: Johnson Water Pump

I would get a new impeller and replace. Even if they look good they can be warn. Since you are going through all the work to remove the lower. Did you use gasket sealer? Or any type of sealer? DId you replace the Key correctly? Some things to check.
