I have a 1972 20hp johnson, with electric start and choke. The problem is that the female end that plugs onto the motor is all weathered and cracking. My question is can I just get that plug end with like pigtales on it and splice it on? I don't think the wires come out because it looks like the wires are molded into the rubber plug, but the wires are bad right where the wires come out of the plug. So do they make such a thing without buying the whole new wiring harness? Does anyone happen to have one?

Part number 385158 dash cable is listed as no longer available, last price was $228.06. The plug does not come as a separate part, as you observed, it is all molded together.

if you are not worried about removing the motor, you can do away with the plug and match colors, splice. i've had to do it several times.

Yes, that is a good point. You also might consider running the heavy battery cables direct with no plug or splice, plus put something like a trailer connector plug in the smaller wires to make portability happen again.

you can also use a bullet splice for each wire, then they can be disconnected.

Try Twin City Outboards. They have a mountain of stuff and would probably have a cable laying around that is otherwise unusable but they would cut off the plug for you. worth a try.
