I finally dug out my 1979 Johnson 9.9 yesterday and diagnosed a powerpack problem. Got a new one installed and I'm ready for the weekend!
While I was under the hood I really couldn't help but wonder about the wires that lead out from under the flywheel. They really move and chafe on top of the head when the throttle is moved. The plastic sleeve around the wires was actually melted in a few spots. Apparently this motor has been hot before though it runs and idles like brand new.
Anyway, I wrapped some good quality electrical tape around the wires but couldn't rest easy all night thinking about those wires breaking or getting melted. I found the following pic on the web that appears to show a zip tie providing some relief to the wires. I've found even more pictures showing no zip tie. Was there originally something providing relief to those wires?
I'm probably worrying a little too much on this, but this really caught me as a potential weak link.
Thanks!
Randy
