First off I'm new to the board so HI!

Ok I've searched and done my homework so as not to waste ppl's time but I'm stumped. I have a Johnson GT 150 VRO with a VRO2 upgrade. I believe the model year to be mid 80's but the model number doesn't completely pan out. And before you ask I am absolutely positive that the model number I list here is accurate. I looked about six times to be certain and used a magnifying glass to make sure that I wasn't mis-reading a letter because of dirt or the like. Here goes...

MODEL# - J150STLACA
SERIAL# - R 7831411

J = Johnson
150 = 150 HP
ST = Special Styling - Trim & Tilt
L = Shaft length 20"

AC ?????? (expletive deleted)

A = Model Run or Suffix

I N T R O D U C E S
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0

I have found information that indicates that an A after the L designates an alternate paint scheme for that model year, which may be supported by the "special styling" in the "ST" portion of the model number.

Given this information I'm left with a year code of C??? Did they just get lazy in 88? LOL - (ok not that funny)

Can someone shed some light on yet another odd year code please???
