First off I'm new to the board so HI!

Ok I've searched and done my homework so as not to waste ppl's time but I'm stumped. I have a Johnson GT 150 VRO with a VRO2 upgrade. I believe the model year to be mid 80's but the model number doesn't completely pan out. And before you ask I am absolutely positive that the model number I list here is accurate. I looked about six times to be certain and used a magnifying glass to make sure that I wasn't mis-reading a letter because of dirt or the like. Here goes...

MODEL# - J150STLACA
SERIAL# - R 7831411

J = Johnson
150 = 150 HP
ST = Special Styling - Trim & Tilt
L = Shaft length 20"

AC ?????? (expletive deleted)

A = Model Run or Suffix

I N T R O D U C E S
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0

I have found information that indicates that an A after the L designates an alternate paint scheme for that model year, which may be supported by the "special styling" in the "ST" portion of the model number.

Given this information I'm left with a year code of C??? Did they just get lazy in 88? LOL - (ok not that funny) :)

Can someone shed some light on yet another odd year code please???

AC is also 88.
The A means you have an alternate colour.

Why did they do this to you? I don't know. :confused: Mabey they don't like you. :D

Thanks for the quick reply and answer. Curious - where did you find that tidbit of information about the AC being an 88 year code? I googled like crazy to come up with the answers I did.

BTW - They do like me I'm just Special! :cool:

I never did find your exact model number represented anywhere. But I think we have enough information:
AE model discussion
150hp model list. No AC but AE again.

AC does get used (again) in '98 on the 130hp (J130TXAC), but I don't belive the 150 as a GT was offered then. They were in '88.

Most of the time the "A" replaced the "C" for Tracker boat motors that were a charcoal gray color. I have seen them on different make boats also.

The paint number is 395127. All this is listed in the parts books.

Ok, some more info for you then, the motor is all white with black air intake vanes. The decal striping is 1/2" silver with a red pinstripe on the inside and the standard black Johnson 150GT logo in the center. Isn't this the standard paint scheme?

According to the parts listing, the 150 STLACA came with a charcoal motor cover. Of course, that was 17 years ago, and a lot of things could be changed by various owners, dealers, etc.
