johnson year modle? help!!!

i have a 30 hp johnson that i can find any i d plate on the number on the engine plug is R8212318

thanks for the reply ... i don't beleive the motor to be quite that old i was told it was 1984 by the person who i bought it from but i need to verify .

ser # i cannot find. this is why i posted the number from the engine plug. i have read in this forum that you can get year and hp from this number i have found online how to tell from ser # but no luck finding #. looked all over including around mounting brackets and no luck.<br /><br /> thanks for any and all help

Hi<br /><br />Noone is trying to ignore you, but we cannot tell the age from the serial #, which is what you have posted. OMC started the 30HP again in 1984 and made them for many years after. <br /><br />You might try taking the motor to your local dealer, who can tell from the parts. Or, you could post pictures of sections of the motor here and someone may be able to help.<br /><br />Did you look on the sides of the transom mount for the plate?

What is the website you used to trace the serial number. I am having the same problem. I have a serial number bu no model number

thanks ezeke <br /> yeah i looked at the transom mounts for plate none there to be found. i'll take some picks tomorow. if it helps i have taken the flywheel off and am going to replace the pickup and powerpack witch was under the flywheel. strange place for it i thought. usually mounted to block. anywat the powerpack has no numbers on it and the pickup has a number 511441oa on it. maybe this helps.<br /><br />thanks<br />Bogie

Based only on the electrical that I can see, I would put it between 1989 and 1992. (CD2UL)
