johnson85 hp tilt and trim down but not up

Hello, I am extremely new to the boating world but I bought an older boat off a friend and am havin some troubles with the tilt and trim....here goes.. 85 hp Johnson(not sure of the year) javelin seahorse MagflashCD...anyways the motor will go down but not up , I pulled the motor off the hydraulic system and checked...its good...runs in forward and reverse fine, tried bleeding the system many times...it just doesnt seem to build up enuff pressure to lift the motor...If anyone has any answers or suggestions I would REALLY appreciate them<br /><br /><br />Thanks very much guys

That ignition system was in the 1979 era. When installed, does the motor actually run both up and down, or only run with the switch down? Be sure that the pressure relief valve is closed or the system will not build pressure.

Thanx for the tip on the year of the motor...but the motor runs forward and reverse when installed ...but doesnt build pressure to lift...I made sure there are no leaks in the lines and everything was done up snug...could it possibly the tilt cylinder is bad?...I really have run out of any other ideas...thanx for the help

Sounds like you have done all of the normal checking that any us can do. There are only a few components to that system- the seals on the pistons, the pump and the control valves in the pump body. Possible that you have some debris stuck in one of the valves. The valves and seal kit are still avail from Bombardier. You could do a rebuild or have it serviced at a shop. A failure like you have is unusual. Ebay frequently has these units listed-a replacement unit might be cheaper.
