Hi Guys
I have a 90hp johno that was running fine until last week. When i select forward gear the revs get up but no movement.
Then all of a sudden it jumps into gear with a bang and takes off like a bat out of hell. Once its going its fine on the throttle but when i go to neutral and try to take off again i have the same issue.
Any help appreciated.

Model number?

Could be your shift dog is binding, at a guess. If it were mine, I would stop running it before something worse happens.

Drain the gearcase oil and look for metal fragments. How much lube comes out would also be good to know.

THanks mate.
I will talk to the mechanic that serviced it last Jan. But it has only been out half dozen times.
Gear oil and seals were changed at that service. Yes i will stop running it good advice.
As for the model it does not have the plate anymore but its a V4. I will post some pice as i would like to know what year.
The seller told me 1986.

Something else to consider - shift cable could be failing. Look for lost motion under the cowl? Try removing the shift cable and see if it shifts properly if you move the lever by hand (tied to the dock...).
