jon vs. evin serial #'s

sort of a double post, sorry (ntwboats/tcathief)<br />do jon/evin's have differnt serial #'s or just<br />different covers? like if you had a motor with<br />no cover, would the serial# give mfg. or just<br />model?<br />regards,<br />M.Y.

That depends of the era. Pre 1980 the were different. From 1980 and on the difference is a J or E.<br /><br />What do you have?

I did.<br /><br />These are the 1969 Johnson 40HP MODEL numbers:<br />40E69-40EL69 <br />40ES69-40ESL6 <br />40R69-40RL69 <br /><br />Evinrude:<br />40902 <br />40903 <br />40952 <br />40953 <br />40972 <br />40973 <br /><br />Can you find anything like these numbers on your engine?

I "used" to have the motor but<br />someone decided they wanted it(stolen). <br />since cover was left on the ground, thought it might re-appear as an evin. somewhere. wanted to be able to give police some solid info re: this matter. am happy to forward info. you have provided. lord knows they don't have time to research such matters.<br />warm regards,<br />M.Y.

They stole your motor but left the cover?!?! There goes the theory behind my winter storage security system of taking the covers off the motors stored in the cabin shed and hiding them elsewhere so nobody would bother stealing the motors. Maybe I'll start removing the props too
