I then added 2 alluminum v rods rivited using hammer and block, with 1/4 inch, rivets. My 10" jonboat was out of commision for almost a month.no leaks. For the floor I used 2inches of styrofoam along the entire floor except the very back part.then covered it in duct tape for extra strenght, then put tarp plastic on top of that.,I cut grooves underneath were the highspots are, like the beems.so your just stepping on foam, I'm usually over my weight capacity, Even my motor ,its heavier than by boat.specs is 3hp and I dip hard on my 9.9 merc 2 stroke, 29.5 just me, and 17mp,with a 4hp merc 2stroke .I used to have foam with ply wood on top of that ,worked good too,but heavier, and harder to maintain cause the wood.I used 2 1 inch sheets, and taped them together.used about 1 roll of duct tape,I had it tie each corner down for a little while cause it tried to warp from the tape pulling on it lenghtways.I could even lay down with my legs straight out....barely,i'm 5'6.Reall comfy mod.lots of deckspace now.only extra weight was from the duct tape.I'll try clear tape next time, for even less weight.

Pics would help, I can't picture what you did.. Well I can but in my mind it is a small Jon Boat held together with Duct tape and an oversized motor just waiting for the right wake to swamp it. :) Be careful out there.

I'm struggling to picture what you did - are you saying you used duct tape to cover the foam for durability? You would be better off with 1/4 inch ply wood. ALso you lost me with the numbers - is that speed (mph) or soemthing else? Come on back, tell us more. Please include pictures and punctuation.

I know,I was struggling myself for pic's,could'nt wait to post.I would'nt recommend this for this type of boat.My nephews is a good example. His middle seat is not secure to the floor and has two beams underneath seat for support. My boat needed the seat there for structual support.plus the rivets cost like $35.00 at grainger.Im gona try masking tape over the foam next time for even less added weight, instead of duct tape.I tried wood for a bit.The homemade rudder is what I am really trying to get at.I had to do something ,plus all that work on the bowmount, boat used to swing out allover.this could be the ticket some guys may been looking for.works greatI run it 2 or 3 " below the floor of my boatJust remember to remove it before draging the boat out,I broke mine twice cause I forgot..Next I 'll try a round pole so it could be adjusted. For the transom brace ,and run it shallower. For the brace I had some heavyduty pvc,and used wood and glued it in place, this should keep the transome from flexing with the 9.9 merc.2 stroke.my nephew said I could put a 15hp now..,damn I'll go for a 30hp,I'm 150,and can stand on my transom without it going under. We have a 4hp,and are thinking of running duals plus bigger props,2 guys,.. one guy steering each motor, or one guy alone with one motor locked in place, with tape on throttle:confused: my boat is 62lb without the foam floor Only taken gas motor once to glades, its not the waves that will get you, its those damn gators.Last trip one would'nt budge, got side by side with him, finally he went under...I doubled up on the plexi on the rudder on half of it for added strength.I would get thicker plexi for sure,.. after I break mine.I used to use it with just one srew at top, worked good like that too.You know what they say,two is better than one.

Yea I was looking at it this morning, looks worst in pic,it had been paited black,"spraypaint",so it looks moldy, but is holding fine, gona put some stain again, thanks anyway, these boats are perfect for down here, my buddies allways say the fishing is better on my boat than some of the bigger boats they go on,especially for peacockbass fishing, and bay,"inshore"..It's all about proper set up,comfort, especially when fishing over 5hours.Its also about a good time and being safe.I carry marine airhorn rechargeable with air pump, also fits on a waterbottle holder.Got pulled over once my Coastguard aux.Just asked for fishing lic.also mentioned he had to check the boat numbers, but he never asked ."I had my troling motor only".Marine police have'nt stopped me yet, seen them bunch of times.,I felt like telling the Coastgaurd dude "you're welcome to come aboard"my buddy of 200lb,was up front with me that day.One My fish, buddies is in the Copastguard,he told me the Coastgaurd aux, cant do crap, but to call on the real Coastguard.I did noticed they had a pretty old boat, and a couple of young prick boys,My buddy had no fish license, they just let him go,he had no I.D.either.what noobs......I used to tie down the floor at the corners and middle. The tape pulled on lenghtways warping the entire thing,it now lays flat without tiying it down.Next I want to post pic.of me rowing,5,1/2 "oars with with "O locks",my oars spin freely.I get going 3to 4 times faster than with troling motor,I plan a bit, noticed with my fishfinder ,its mounted low,and use 6ounce 12v batt.My speed stops reading,as the wheel to the speedometer breacks the surface! ,raced a dude on big canoe with sm,dog ,I had sm car batt, and troling motor,I raced him with my oars alone for 200yards.I use the bass pro chair screwed onto a milkcrate cut in half.Milkcrate was to high to row with before.I used 4 scews from the inside on each corner.works great.A little low,it was meant for rowing mostly.Beach chairs are usually used, only one, fits, unless I remove rear seat.mmm an idea I've thought about allready.2 beach chairs, damn,it would be the most comfortable jon boat yet.even now its great for sitting Indian style on the foam floar even, mmm,soo comfy, and all that extra deckspace,This is normal for me.I would normally go out of my way for extra deck space, next is a bimini top using bamboo,as my frame, possibly tarp for roof, also going for another cheap project allready got the bamboo, for free, also I,m setting some up for frogging,O yaaa,I've never eaten, or caught frogs..yet.
