I'm thinking about a thin flexible piece of plastic with industrial strength Velcro attached to the tube. My JP Marine boat doesn't allow alot of space (due to handle placements) and the numbers must be a certain size.

The other thing I kind of liked about the 2x4 was if I forgot the paddles and the engine died at least I'd have something?

Minnesota boating guide 2011 page 6 says, "They can be painted or attached to the craft.

I also called the Coast Guard in Bayfield Wisconsin since I figured they would be most likely to stop me in the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior. They said quote, "Not a problem."

I made sure he understood exactly how they were attached and specifically said I had read on the Internet Homeland Security did NOT want detachable numbers on boats. He again said quote, "Not a problem."

It could all change next year of course...what with the heavy terrorist activity happening in the great lakes.

Cheers. Pretty reasonable policy. Just wonderin' cause a lot of states are such hard-a****e$ about the Homeland Security stuff. Of course, one never knows if someone will equip a muskie with some type of torpedo! :D

Boat + 1 for dog nail test
Human - 1 for dog nail test

I'm glad you were able to grab your dog when he jumped into the drink. My little guy wears a life preserver.

Cheers,

CapeAnn

Yeah, I have life jackets for both of mine. They are 85lb golden retrievers that swim all the time. However, I always keep life jackets and throwables on board for the humans and canines. Ideally, I would like to have them wear the life jackets, but my younger one for whatever reason is petrified of his. When he was a puppy, he wore one a couple times and was okay with them. Now, I put it on him and he freezes up. He will stand there like a statue and won't even get a treat placed at his feet! My older one doesn't mind at all. I put it on him and away he goes.

Part of the problem, even though my dogs are amazing swimmers, was the fact that I believe my dog didn't think it was going to be over his head. So he jumped in and his entire head went under water. He popped up and he was frantic. Even though he could swim great, he was uneasy. I'll have to work more on getting him used to the life jackets. He's the same way about his gentle lead harness though. You put it on him and he becomes a statue. It's so sad looking, but as soon as we leave the house he's bounding around happily.

Silly pup. Doesn't he see how much fun 'Big Bro' is having with his jacket? ;) Maybe, there are some starter buoyancy devices like dog waterwings? My little guy was like a Lippizaner stallion when he first had to wear doggie shoes. After a while, a long while he got it. Best with your pups!

Cheers,
