I have noticed a company called JRC marketing electronic equipment, radio's, radar, etc.

I think this stands for Japan Radio Corp. Whats the word on this brands quality, reliability or affiliation with more popular brands?

Re: JRC?????

Don't know pointer, but most internal products of Eletronics aremade in Japan anyway. All I found was this:

The history of JRC dates back to 1915 when Japan Radio Company, Ltd was founded in Tokyo and produced mechanical gears. Over the years, JRC has become a leader in developing cutting edge, advanced technologies in radar, communications and other manufacturing areas, securing hundreds of patents and industry "firsts". In 1939 JRC developed the world's first Cavity Magnetron, a key component of modern day radar systems and microwave ovens.

Japan Radio Company has several divisions that manufacture a variety of products for Military, Medical, Semiconductor, Microwave technologies, Vessel and Land Communications and Telecommunications applications

Re: JRC?????

A while back I looked at their products when I was doing the RADAR thing. They didn’t offer much for the consumer market. At that time they were limited on features, basic small-screen monochromatic RADAR. Not small on quality. It seems like their strongest market is from the big end down. Their stuff is on things like trans-pacific ocean freighters with a 6-ft array you could ride on. If they have a more developed recreation product line it wasn’t (isn’t) offered in this country.

I was at their website last week looking at the documentation for their DGPS receiver (antenna) as a possible fit for the ICOM 360GP. Documentation is comprehensive, but the website sucks. Btw, their DGPS receiver will work, but we don’t need all the extraneous features that we can’t access via the 360GP…but would have to pay for them. Still looking for something less expensive.

I don’t have personal experience with JRC but I got the impression it is good, basic stuff. Thom might be able to give some real-world input on the quality of their VHF radios.

Re: JRC?????

Pointer
I meet two friends at Bodega Bay where we camp when ocean fishing. These two both have 24 mile radar units and are very close friends. One made by Ratheon and the other by JRC. The guy with the Ratheon was always picking on the guy with the JRC. Why did you buy such a cheap unit, ECT.

Well one day the guy with the Ratheon decided to make a new mount and mount the antenna in a different way and of course he ask his friend to help him. In the process they had to take the the cover off the closed array. Inside the Raytheon every part said JRC. In fact the antenna is the exact same unit except for the sticker on the outside. Well they still pick on each other but the shoe is now on the other foot. Why did you pay so much for a JRC antenna.

The LCD diaplays are different but the arrays are the same. They are both very happy with their units. This area it is very common for thick fog every morning.

Re: JRC?????

I have personal experience with a JRC product. It was a handheld NAV/COM aircraft radio. I got it in and the rechargable battery was shot. The radio would stay on about 10 seconds then go off. They sent me another battery, it was crap too. The radio was shipped back and a Vertex Standard put in it's place. It was used yesterday to pick up ATIS on our local flight. Its 10 times the radio at half the size and twice as many features.

I personally have had bad luck with this company and wouldn't purchase another product from them again.
