jumping out of gear

hi i have 1988 starcraft with 2.3 liter with colbra stern drive just got it in the water after rebuilding the motor .it sounds like i have a cluch dog problum to me .i have done them in outboards .is there much difference in the two

More than likely the shift cable is out of adjustment or it needs relacement. Keep running it with it jumping out of gear & u will trash the drive. There is a link here posted today on how to adjust the cable. You will have to remove the drive to do it correctly, so u will need a new housing gasket.
