I once rebuilt a 9.8 hp motor 18 years ago and I think I got the parts from a local dealer. That guy has been long gone. If you wanted to rebuild a motor is the only place to buy parts a dealer? Is there an acceptable after market parts maker? Just looking around here there's no Johnson/Evinrude dealer that really advertises it. I ordered my rectifier from a guy in the next county and had it drop shipped and it was full list plus shipping and tax. Just curious where you could get a normal enough of a price to want to do it.

Thanks... Gary

Hi Guvner
Outboard parts are a little expencive, some more than others. I've tried to find ways to lower this cost for better than 20yrs. I haven't had much sucess. I try to do most of my business through one dealer. Sometimes they will give me a small discount. How ever most of the time it's a full pull deal. There are after market suppliers. Napa auto parts can order these parts for you. This can be good, or a nightmare. If you have your own parts catologs and can cross your own part#s you may make out ok. Other wise you have to depend on folks that know very little about the parts you need. A dealer can order these same parts for you as well. Keep in mind that most of these parts are obsolete from the original OEM. So we still pay the freight. I have found it's much better to pay the price, quit all the horsing around, and go with the guy that delivers. If a place dosen't have the goods, or it takes them a month to get them, Does it really matter if they are two bucks less?
