I could easily be way out there, but I think it could be beneficial for have a place on here for electrical questions. Trailer lights, stereos, ignition, engine wiring, even automotive. That would take a fair amount of questions off the outboard and a few from just about all the others. Seems to me it would be a little more organized (not that it isnt great already!)
Whaddya think? Good idea, bad idea??
Just a thought. Perhaps JB or Admin5 have some input..?
Craig

Re: Just a thought...

Speaking of stereos, has anyone had any dealings with an Optimus car stereo?

Hello Craig,

There used to be a catagory on this board called Electronics. It got very little use so many of the members decided to change the makeup of the board. Maybe we should reconsider?

Re: Just a thought...

Well, the other night I was looking through posts, and could not help but notice several electrical questions in both the I/O and outboard, even boats only. I have seen them in nothing to to with boats too. Im sure there are some people with more experiance with electronics then anything else. And "electronics" is a very broad term, it can mean many things having to to with outboards, inboards, trim, lights, trailers, trucks, radios, VHF radios, GPS, even the computers we use to access this wonderful site :) heck nowadays everything has electronics in it. I always see people posting in the wrong place and having it locked, but very similar questions appear in 3 or 4 different places and nothing can be said. Seems to me it would be more organized, therefore increase the possibility of getting adequate help. ThankyouCraig

Re: Just a thought...

I like it the way it is. It breaks things down into problem catagories, and for the helpers, it lets them look at the problems that they are familiar with. If you combine all the electrical into one group and try using the search feature, You will have an enormous pile of doodoo to sort thru, most of which doesn't apply. I for one do not want to dig thru a bunch of posts that are for inboard engines with submerged starters,to find a post on the proper lubrication of an outboard starter. Most non engine electrical questions are for boat accessories, and should be in the boat problem catagory.

Re: Just a thought...

After thinking about this for a couple of days, I would have to say that if I wanted to do a search for a problem with lights, I would not want to know about lighters, or the best way to wire one up.

Just so much that would come up doing an electric search.

I say let it ride the way it is.

Just my .02 worth anyway. :D

Re: Just a thought...

I dunno Craig. So many times electrical problems blend in with the way an outboard or I/O runs or don't run. And lots of times, most of the time the posters don't know it's electrical and not mechanical. If questions could be kept to stuff like you said, trailer wiring, boat wiring, and stuff like that, I would say OK. But leave electrical questions for O/B's and I/O's where they are at. I think there would be just to much confusion if they were split up.
